I don't know how to translate this dish. I know some of Japanese food, but I think I've never cooked them at home.
Since I'm doing 'Alternate Day Diet', I try to control my appetite seeing some photos of food. Yesterday was 'low calories day' so I only ate some fruits and milk. I was surfing the Internet at night what to cook tomorrow!
Then I saw this this - nikujaga and I really wanted to cook it!
It's very common and popular home-made dish in Japan. It's kind of casserole but the meat is thin and the sause is sweetened say sauce.
Here's the recipe & ingredients
#Ingredients: (serve for 2 ~ 3, takes 30 mins)
3 small potatoes (or 2 midium ones), half onion, 4-5 strips of beef (for bulgogi), Ground cherry peppers
For sauce: kelp, 5 tbs of say sauce, 3 tbs of tasted alcohol (for cook), 1 cup of hot water - mix them in a bowl.
#Recipe
1. Chunk onion, potatoes, and beef into bite size.
2. Coat a pot with some oil and fry beef and onion, and add potatoes when the beef starts to become brown.
3. Poor the sauce that you made and add some pepper.
4. Boil it with cover until the water reduced to 1/3 of the pot. Do not turn over potatoes too often cause it's easy to break.
4*. Actually, in the original recipe, they didn't add some red pepper powder but I thought it was too sweet for Koreans, so added some red pepper powder. It depends on you. I prefer something spicy a bit.
5. When the sauce is redeced, add some peppers and live it about 4 minutes.
6. Ready to serve! Garnish with sesame seeds. You can add a bit of butter on it when it's hot.
It was great. The taste was similar to our 'Bulgogi' but different, and it's fairly easy to make.
I shouldn't make my 'normal calories day' as 'make-up calories day' :((( Anyway, I've done for today and tomorrow is the low calories day!
